Hang Glider

Hang gliders have been around since the 1800’s, with the first (relatively controllable) hang glider to be made and tested in the 188o’s by Otto Lilienthal - which successfully flew. The wings were controlled by weight shifts.

Hang gliding is often regarded as a dangerous, adventurous sport that does have a relatively high incident rate. But more recently, due to the design technologies, these hang glideres have become advanced ‘wing’ like structures that can create a long smooth glide from a high area, with good controls. Although they are not certified for aerobatic flight, they are still a popular hobby/extreme sport in pilots who are understand the dangers of flying these gliders.
